Hassanali, a Travel Hack Guy reader, sent me a question yesterday in regards to what options are available for customers in Canada. Furthermore, he asked “American Express Canada has the Blue Sky card. Are they the same?“
Unfortunately the American Express BlueBird card is not available in Canada. American Express BlueBird is a pre-paid card that anyone in the United States over the age of 18 with a valid social security number can get without a credit inquiry.
What is the American Express Blue Sky?
The American Express Blue Sky is an actual credit card by American Express. This means that you have to apply for the card and your credit will have an inquiry on its history for the application. The Blue Sky card is available for customers in Canada who want to earn points to redeem towards travel.
The benefits to this credit card are that there’s no annual fee and you earn 1.25 points for each dollar in purchases.
You can redeem your points starting at 10,000 minimum, which is equivalent to a $100 statement credit towards your travel purchases.
Sorry, Hassanali, but it looks like American Express doesn’t have a pre-paid card in Canada (yet).
