What’s the offer? 50,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles after spending $3,000 within 3 months. $0 annual fee the first year and then $95 thereafter.
In order to receive the 50,000 mile signup bonus on the Citi AA Personal Platinum card you must not have any active Citi AA Personal credit cards in the last 12 – 18 months. This includes the Citi AAdvantage Executive card that many of us received last year numerous times to collect hundreds of thousands of miles.
Exception to the rule
The exception to this rule is to apply for the Business version of the Citi AA card. This is a completely separate product from the Personal Citi AA credit cards. As long as you sell something online at least once a year, have a garage sale, etc. you can apply for a business credit card!
I actually hold 2 American Express business credit cards. Since I sell merchandise online numerous times throughout the year, I am qualified to apply for business credit cards.
How to receive 50,000 mile signup bonus
- Citi AA Personal Platinum application link. (As mentioned above, if you’ve had any kind of Personal Citi AA card within the last 12-18 months, do NOT apply for the personal card.)
- Citi AA Business MasterCard application link. (This is a separate product and you will receive the signup bonus even if you currently hold a Citi AA Personal credit card.)
What you can do with 50,000 miles
This is an easy way to earn 2 free roundtrip tickets within the domestic US. American Airlines typically charges 25,000 miles per roundtrip ticket. Otherwise 50,000 miles is enough for a one-way business class ticket to Europe.
If you’re not in a rush to spend the miles, you could also apply for the Barclaycard US Airways card, which is still offering 50,000 miles. This offer won’t last since the card is being discontinued any day now!
Sometime in Quarter 2 of this year, American Airlines will merge the US Airways Dividend and AAdvantage accounts together. Therefore, if you have 50,000 miles in each account, you’ll soon have 100,000 miles in 1 account! That’s enough for a roundtrip Business class ticket to Europe!
No more than 2 Citi apps within 65 days
As a reminder, do not apply for more than 2 Citi credit cards within 65 days. Citi has this rule where you have to wait at least 8 days between credit card applications, and no more than 2 total within 65 days.
Break it down:
- Apply for a Citi card today.
- Wait 8 days and apply for another Citi credit card.
- Wait 65 days from the first application and you can apply for a third Citi card.
50,000 miles is a pretty large signup bonus to pass up. Start thinking about what trips you want to take, and if your destination(s) include Europe then I would snag this signup bonus along with the Barclaycard US Airways card before it disappears. That way you can have 100,000 miles by Quarter 2 and fly to Europe in Business Class!
