I recently came across the SkyMiles Dining program which allows you to earn Delta SkyMiles while dining out at some of your favorite restaurants. If you check the bonus section of the site, you can currently receive 2,500 Delta SkyMiles just for signing up and spending $30 at a participating restaurant! That’s a pretty good deal considering you could buy 2,500 SkyMiles for roughly $87 on Delta’s website for over 3 cents per mile.
So how do you earn miles through the SkyMiles Dining program?
1. Register for the program and search for participating restaurants by zip code.
2. You then need to add your credit card(s) on file so that when you eat at a participating restaurant and swipe your card you’ll collect miles for dining out. You can add up to 5 credit cards to your profile and they can be either Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express!
So how many miles will I earn? For every dollar spent, you’ll earn either 1, 3, or 5 miles! All the restaurants in my area were 3 miles. If you dine out more than 12 times in a year, you’ll then become VIP and earn 5 miles per dollar spent! If you have a Delta SkyMiles credit card, you would be able to add this card to your profile so when you dine out you’ll earn your regular miles from American Express (1 SkyMile per dollar spent), but you’ll also earn SkyMiles from the dining program! If you dine at a restaurant that is giving you 3 miles per dollar spent, then you’re actually earning 4 miles on your Delta SkyMiles card! If you’re VIP, then you’re earning 6 miles on your Delta SkyMiles card! This is known as double dipping points.
Double dipping your points would actually work on any credit card that gives you miles/points. If you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, I would highly recommending adding this card to your dining profile. You’d be able to earn 2x points on dining from Chase and then either 1, 3, or 5 miles from the SkyMiles dining program.
