I’m going to the great city of New York City in May over Memorial weekend. This will be my 7th time to NYC! I don’t know what it is about the city, but it always makes me feel so alive! I feel like anything could happen and the city always gives me so much energy. Maybe that’s why I like bringing someone new with me each time I go? This time I’ll be bringing one of my sisters along and my partner.
I was fortunate enough to signup for the Barclaycard Arrival to get 40,000 miles after only spending $1,000 on the card. The spending limit has since increased to $3,000 in 3 months. Still not bad considering you’re getting $400 in travel credit ($440 if you include the 10% back you receive when you use your miles on travel.) I also had my partner signup for the card since it was such a great offer and he too was approved for the card.
Spending $1,000 on each card is not too difficult for us among gas and groceries alone. Between both of us driving crossovers and shopping at Whole Foods, we were both able to meet the spending limit in less than 1 month. After receiving our miles immediately after meeting the spending threshold, we stated looking at airfare tickets. Being from Minnesota, I despise flying Delta since MSP is their main hub and their prices are always jacked up. Therefore, I was happy we were able to find non-stop tickets to JFK on Sun Country airlines for $315. Okay, so I had to pitch in a little bit of money for our 3rd ticket, but we were able to redeem our miles to cover the majority of our airfare!
I also have the Capital One Venture card which currently has 35,000 miles. I’m charging everything to this card to save up another 30,000 miles or so. That way I’ll have enough miles for 2 nights in a hotel in London this summer before I visit my friend in Germany! None of this would be possible without travel hacking since I’m flying over to Germany with my AAdvantage miles (currently balance is sitting a little over 220,000 miles.)
