Back in December Barclaycard upped the bonus to 50,000 miles on their US Airways Dividend Miles credit card. Teddy and I both applied and were approved. We don’t fly US Airways, but the miles will soon convert to our American Airlines AAdvantage accounts and that’ll top each of our accounts off with over 100,000 miles.

Barclaycard now has a bonus offer going on for select customers. It looks like Barclaycard wants its customers to continue charging to their US Airways credit card instead of putting it in the sock drawer after collecting the signup bonus. This is EXACTLY what Teddy and I did after making 1 purchase and collecting 50,000 miles. I plan on canceling our US Airways credit cards when it comes time to pay the annual fee.

50% Bonus offer

The terms and conditions say the offer is for select cardmembers, but I would guess that anyone who was approved for the 50,000 miles offer will see this 50% bonus after logging into their account.

What you’ll want to do is login to your account and select your US Airways Dividend Miles credit card. After you do that, look for the 50% bonus button in the bottom right side of your account.

50% bonus miles details

Register now to earn 50% more miles on all your purchases made with either your US Airways Dividend Miles® MasterCard® or your AAdvantage® Aviator MasterCard® from March 1 through June 30, 2015, up to a maximum of 10,000 bonus miles.1

The deal starts this Sunday, March 1. Any purchases before this date won’t count towards the bonus miles. Each cardmember that is eligible for this bonus must register by June 30. However, the bonus ends on June 30, so you’ll want to register as soon as possible to ensure you receive the maximum number of bonus miles possible (up to 10,000).

Barclaycard US Airways 50 Bonus

Don’t forget to register your Barclaycard US Airways card to be eligible for the 50% US Airways miles bonus!

Is it worth it?

I think so! Since I have until June 30 to complete the spending, I’ll probably end up doing everything via manufactured spending to earn the maximum number of bonus miles, 10,000 miles.

In order to receive the 10,000 bonus miles, you’ll have to spend $20,000 on your Barclaycard US Airways Dividend Miles credit card between March 1, 2015 and June 30, 2015. That sure seems like a lot, but my local Simon Mall just bumped up their gift card purchase limit to $10,000 per day. I should be able to complete the spending requirement for both our US Airways credit cards in under a week.

Simon Mall Visa gift cards cost $3.95 a piece. I’ll have to buy 40 gift cards to complete the $20,000 spending requirement, for a grand total of $158 in gift card activation fees. My return will be 20,000 miles + 10,000 bonus miles for a grand total of 30,000 miles! This is enough for a free round-trip ticket via American Airlines once the miles merge into my AAdvantage account. Not too shabby for only $158!
